Alumni

Building a strong relationship with alumni is seen as being more and more important as HE and FE realise the commercial and fundraising potential in their former students. Alumni solutions are also more and more in demand from Regional Development Agencies, who see the economic potential in alumni reinvesting back into their Universities region.

CDSM’s Alumni solution will allow your university or college to:

  • Increase the size of the university’s registered alumni
  • Create a detailed profile of all registered alumni
  • Integrate with your Student Records System
  • Send targeted marketing messages
  • Increase inward business investment into the University and the local economy
  • Develop a relationship with your alumni that will help you to fundraise

CDSM recently won the Website Designer of the Year Award for the University of Wales Web portal solution. The project was run by UWS and the Welsh Development Agency. Please see the feedback from Swansea University (below) for the impact that CDSM’s alumni solution has made.

Swansea University

“Just thought you'd like to know that, on the day following our first successful e-newsletter, online registrations increased from the usual 8-10 to over 40. Good work! Cheers, Sian”

Siân Newman, Alumni Officer, University of Wales Swansea

UWS Alumni Website (April 2003)

Some facts, figures and information

  • Over 12,000 registrations since April 2002 – that’s a ¼ of our total alumni and rising every day
  • Average hits per day as at 29th April: 13,000
  • Average visit length 10 minutes
  • Since the site went live, we have expanded from around 5 daily enquiries to 30-40 per day.

What does this mean to us?

We now know our audience. We know who they are, where they are and what they want from their association. This may sound simple but it’s absolutely vital to the success of the association.

Automatic e-newsletter increases site traffic by at least 100% on the day it goes out and registrations jump by 400% the following day. This means that registered alumni are passing it on to their friends which is exactly the result we were hoping for.

The Buddy Board is the most frequently accessed section, followed by the business pages.

We maintain a vibrant news section with an average of 5 new stories each week, each written in an informative, humorous way with a Swansea flavour. These news stories generate enquiries from alumni and in turn, that gives us valuable information on our alumni and their likes and dislikes.

Alumnus Jeremy Beynon used the site to gain information on expanding his Sydney-based company into Swansea.

One of the best ways of re-connecting with alumni is through events, based around geography, age, common interests, career interests, etc. The website has proved to be indispensable as a tool for gauging interest level, pre-event promotion and post-event feedback.
