What is People and Places?
People and Places is a portal and online portfolio that promotes communication, interaction and evidence collection amongst its community members. It has been specifically designed for users with learning disabilities. CDSM's specialist accessibility knowledge and experience is second to none in this area and CDSM's partners, the Shaw Trust, have accredited the application as an accessible, pan-disabled user appropriate web application.
Who is People and Places for?
Any community can use People and Places but it has been specifically built for users with learning disabilities, their supporters, family and carers. The portal enables its members to have ownership, identity and belonging in a safe, intuitive environment.
How does People and Places benefit my organisation?
People and Places is designed to be a useful resource for service users and their supporters. It promotes and enables community members to create a comprehensive portrait of who they are, what skills and knowledge they have and provides tools to manage and help them attain what they want to do with their life. It brings together all of the people who are important to a community member including family, friends, support workers and other professionals involved in their lives. If you are a Special School or College, a service provider for a Local Authority, a Local Education Authority or a Local Authority, People and Places will provide a comprehensive set of online tools and services to compliment your organisation's approach to Person Centred Planning (PCP), educational attainment and informal and formal assessment activities.
Features of People and Places
The online portfolio focus of the portal records, saves and shares the member's daily activities as well as their academic and skills-based achievements. Features of People and Places include:
Online Support
An online avatar is available at all time to support members. This is supported by administrators who can assist if a member is not getting the solution he or she requires. With online assistance members will never be without help. Site administrators will also respond promptly to any questions submitted by members. Whether it is starting a new club, finding someone for a jamming session or to arrange an outing, the online avatar is there to provide support to members.
Secure Permissions and Administration Functions
Administrators within the community monitor and support members with their needs, ensuring their online health and emotional well being.
Secure Messaging
The security and the safety of the individual member are managed by a robust permissions system. In this section, members can send and receive messages safely and securely. They will be prompted via their email when messages are waiting.
Message Boards Supporting Social Activity
Members can stimulate interactive contributions from their community. For example they can discuss sport, leisure, work, TV or film. The forums encourage communication.
Search Facility
Members can search the website to find old and new friends with similar interests to themselves. The search facility allows members to search the website for people who share their hobbies and interest, attended their school, college, used the same services, or worked with them.
Activity Planner
Allows members to plan their days and record their experiences, whether it be appointments or days out. This can be done using Widget icons. Members can plan their daily lives by entering their appointments and social activities. On completion of an activity, feedback can be provider to organiser of the event and then saved to the online diary.
My Favourite Items
Members can collect and organise things of interest from the internet. They can store and share their favourite pictures, audio, video and websites. These items can be used throughout the website.
Online Diary
Using the online diary members can record their daily events. The diary allows members to enter text, video, audio and images. Members can choose to share their daily experiences with their friends, supporters and family.
About Me
The about me area is a person-centred profile of the member, under supervision if necessary, can publish their personal details and make this information available to chosen community members.
