ACCESSIBILITY

Click here to see CDSM's Accessibility portfolio.

Building or auditing sites to ensure that the needs of disabled people are met requires specialist knowledge and experience. CDSM have a history of working with companies and organisations such as Legal & General, ChildLine, The Shaw Trust, and The Thalidomide Trust to deliver accessible web sites and services.

Our consultants are active in the web accessibility arena and regularly contribute articles and participate in forums and discussions with the aim of promoting web accessibility awareness and establishing best practice.

All CDSM websites are built to be accessible. It's not something that we compromise on, or charge extra for. Our ethic is that information should be accessible to all. We can help guide your organisation or web team towards developing accessible products and services.

Services we offer

Web accessibility auditing

Using our experience and specialist knowledge of Web accessibility guidelines, you will receive an illustrated accessibility report on your site that is comprehensive, clear and easy to understand. Our executive summary will help to inform management teams about important work that needs to be done to make web pages accessible.

Pan-disability auditing (with our partners The Shaw Trust)

We are privileged to be working with The Shaw Trust (Link will open in a new window) to offer the Shaw Trust Web Accreditation (STWA) service. The combination of specialist technical auditing and disabled user testing results in the most comprehensive web auditing service on the globe. Pan-disabilities testing ensures that your website is usable by those who are:

  • Blind
  • Partially sighted
  • Mobility impaired
  • Deaf
  • Dyslexic

STWA is one of the few pan-disabilities testing service in the UK that endorses sites with their own "accessible" accreditation insignia.

Web consultancy

Sometimes you'll need someone to work as part of your team to ensure that your methods of constructing accessible content will consistently result in accessible web pages. We also recommend that any organisation that is serious about producing accessible web pages should have a web accessibility policy. CDSM has developed policy and guidelines for a range of organisations giving developers and content authors a clear reference point for meeting the accessibility needs of their organisation, their clients and customers.

Web accessibility training

Getting your head around the complexity of web accessibility issues can be a daunting and difficult task. There are many issues that can only be resolved through experience. CDSM offer both on-site and off-site training tailored to meet the needs of your web team.

PDF conversion and auditing

The provision of web services is covered under the Disabilities Discrimination Act (DDA). This doesn't cover just HTML Web pages; it covers all methods of web delivery including PDF.

PDFs are undoubtedly a popular format, and Adobe has made considerable progress in opening up the architecture to allow access by screen readers and other assistive technologies. CDSM know how to create PDFs to maximize accessibility, and can offer training and PDF auditing to ensure that all your web services are accessible.
